The Bottelary Hills Wine Route has organised a series of Winemakers Lunches
The first lunch takes place at the Hartenberg Estate on Sunday, 26 August.
This is your opportunity to experience great food paired with the best wines the area has to offer and also to get up close and personal with the winemakers.
There’s nothing like a winemaker explaining, face to face, why the particular wine you are drinking tastes the way it does. I’ve always enjoyed these opportunities as, in my experience, winemakers are very waffle free people when it comes to talking about wine.
A select choice of winemakers from this wine area, renowned for its acclaimed red wines and premium white and sparkling wines, have teamed up for four season-inspired and varietal themed lunches to be hosted at participating estates on the last Sunday of August, November, February and May.
The winemaker, assistant winemaker or owner will be present at these winemakers lunches – Hartenberg’s function will be hosted by either Carl Shultz or Patrick Ngamane.
Other confirmed winemakers to share and showcase their wines at the lunches includes Danie Steytler of Kaapzicht and Louis Roos of Mooiplaas.
The Bottelary Hills Wine Route, nestled north-west of Stellenbosch, is home to numerous award-winning wine estates including Villiera, Hartenberg, Beyerskloof, Bellevue, Goede Hoop, Groenland, Kaapzicht, Mooiplaas and many more.
The first Winemakers Lunch offers a bistro-style winter wine and dine affair.
Chef Christophe Dehosse of Joostenberg Bistro will whet appetites with a four-course feast in Hartenberg’s underground cellar. Each of his dishes will be paired with a matching wine from the area.
The inaugural at Hartenberg Winemaker’s Lunch starts at 11am and costs R250 per person for a wine tasting and four-course meal inclusive of a glass of wine per course. Pre bookings are essential as seating is limited.
To book your seats contact Tel: (021) 886 8275 or send an email to marketing@wineroute.co.za.
Hartenberg Estate is situated on the Bottelary Road off the R304 to Stellenbosch.
The next Bottelary Hills Winemakers Lunch will celebrate the taste of spring in true al fresco style at Beyerskloof Estate on 25 November.
