This week it’s a line up of Sauvignon Blancs, all under R50. This is the number one selling type of white wine in South Africa.
We truffled out 8 great Sauvignon Blancs, all widely available.
First up, Diemersdal 2009 Sauvignon Blanc. Classic tropical tastes with hints of citrus. One of the hits of 2010.
Kleine Zalze 2009 Sauvignon Blanc. Grassyness meets herb notes with a hint of passion fruit.
Bon Courage 2008 Sauvignon Blanc. A very drinkable wine with plenty of cut through citrus and pleasing vegetal notes.
Porcupine Ridge 2008 Sauvignon Blanc.Lime and lemon notes hit the palate with a backnote of asparagus.
Douglas Green 2008 Sauvignon Blanc. Mouthfilling richness, honey and grass.
Welmoed 2009 Sauvignon Blanc. Tropical notes with a nice mineral aftertaste.
Du Toitskloof Cellar 2009 Sauvignon Blanc. Fruity but with firm citrus limey cut through.
Backsberg 2009 Sauvignon Blanc. Tropical fruit mingle with gooseberry sourness in a fresh balanced wine.
There wasn’t a dud bottle in this line up. I’d be delighted to purchase any of these bottles again.
The winner for me, with my Taste Buddies, was Welmoed 2009 Sauvignon Blanc.
A complete knockout for R24.99.
