Mussels are tasty, inexpensive, nutritious, sustainable (that will keep all the folk at SASSI happy) and are in plentiful supply.
So why is it so hard to get a decent bowl of these fresh beauties in Cape Town?
I mean, we are 3/4’s surrounded by fresh unpolluted ocean, and, in fact, you can actually forage on beaches [...]

What a great idea!
Take Spain’s national dish and organise a competition to see who makes the best one.
I was asked to be a judge, along with some Spaniards living in Cape Town and Brent Meersman of the Mail and Guardian.
The event was the brainchild of ebullient Spanish Consul General, Ignacio Garcia-Valdecasas, and he turned the [...]

We had a huge entry - 123 e.mails – the highest we’ve ever had for a competition.
It was a difficult task; to match our panels eventual choice of the ten best restaurants.
Nobody achieved this.
But one person got 8 out of the 10 correctly.
And that person is Michael McKenzie of McGregor and The Waterkant, Cape Town.
We congratulate him, wish [...]

A big congratulations to the 100 Places to Eat that made the Top 100 list. The reaction to the list has been extraordinarily positive.
But the judging didn’t stop there, as the panel had to go on and chose the Top 10 Places to Eat from this list.
Last night, the Top 10 places were revealed to [...]

I had heard about the Amarula Cocktail Competition and remembered a more youthful past where B52’s were part of any evening out.
I remember that using a cream liqueur in a cocktail was a tricky business as it floated on top of most spirits you mixed it with and also you had to be careful not to mix [...]

Tired of all the wine competitions?
Flummoxed by the endless lists of best Sauvignons? best this, best that?.
Completely confused when you visit your local supermarket or bottle shop to buy wine?
How do you chose? Is it the label? Do you go on price? Name? The number of prize winning competition winning stickers?
Can the sales assistant help? How [...]

I like simple competitions.
Zonnebloem have come up with a great little one.
http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/ZonnebloemWine?ref=ts
They’ve teamed up with Le Creuset, and there’s a pot a month going. All you have to do is open up the Facebook link and click on the “I like” option.
How simple is that? There’s the link, away you go.

The winners of the two magnums of Pongracz Rose Bubbly are;
Drumroll………..
1. Michelle Edwards – because she seems ready to drink it any way.
and
2. Kim. Who would drink it with her two sisters. I like this kind of creativity and lateral thinking.
Girls, can you please e.mail me asap on clare@spill.co.za with your addresses so that we [...]

Congratulations to all our entrants for this competition, and we had a lot of them.
But sadly, only six can win, and it was tough picking out just six.
Here are the winning entries.
We will be in contact seperately by e.mail to sort out delivery etc.
Well done again everyone.
Clare. xxx
Glenda Nevill.
