Eric Bulpitt is joining The Roundhouse Restaurant, Camps Bay; the start date is March 1st.
This move sees the dynamic 33 year old heading up a strong culinary team of ten focusing on fine dining.
Existing chef PJ Vadas will collaborate with Eric on the food, but Eric will get to concentrate on the cooking and PJ will focus on other developments at the Roundhouse Restaurant.
Details of the new developments are under wraps for now but having heard about few of them they are bound to cause a stir in 2011. PJ will be moving into a more general manager role.
Chatting to Eric the excitement in his voice is palpable. ‘’ I’m really honoured to be joining The Roundhouse. They are very serious about what they do and there’s a very professional approach to service. Without a doubt it’s the best move for my career. There are lots of imaginative plans for 2011 and I’m very revved up to be a part of this. The location is stunning and the gardens and building are something else. This place has the wow factor’’
And what does he have to say about Jardine? ‘’Well, my greatest learning experience was working together with
George Jardine, it was phenomenal. He has been a very big part of my career and has been my mentor.’’
Three staff members from Jardine will be making the move with Eric from Jardine to the Roundhouse.
A real highlight for Eric last year was spending six weeks in Denmark, cooking at the Noma Copenhagen, the world’s number 1 restaurant.
Eric joined Jardine on Bree St. in 2006, but it was during 2010 that Eric really stamped his mark on Jardine’s menu and he developed the reputation for some of the most innovative cooking in Cape Town.
This is an amazing opportunity for this young, supremely talented, hard working and friendly chef. I really believe we’re going to eat some amazing food at the Roundhouse in 2011.
Spill wishes him the best of luck and success.

Please add the West Coast Rock Pool to the menu!
Hi Rory, Have to agree with you on this. The last time I ate there I had it, and it was almost a shame to eat it because it looked so beautiful.
Clare, is Eric married?
I don’t believe so Katya.
I am sad to hear jardine will be closing it’s doors – that has been a favorite of mine. Glad to hear though that Eric will be cooking soon at another restaurant – roundhouse will need to be my new my favorite then;)
I agree Leigh. Eric will thrive there, it’s a great new challenge for him. With his NOMA experience this year I am sure he will delight us all with his expertise.
Well done Eric, may the Lord Jesus take you from strength to strength, we are proud of you!!
