As more scare stories emerge about our food we are more concerned than ever about where the food we eat originates from.
But being practical, we cannot go down to every field and examine where the lamb played and nibbled the daisies, or check every farm to see that the chickens we eat are really free range, and roam on grassland eating grains during the day.
I know I’d like to, as in the last few months I’ve eaten “organic” eggs that have tasted of fish and chicken that has not tasted of chicken. A friend helpfully suggested “seagull?…” And these were products bought from national retailers with much vaunted reputations.
I’ve tracked down my butcher though, and the meat he supplies me is the best grass fed beef I can buy in Cape Town. Cattle were never meant to be fed grain, they can’t digest it.
So imagine my relief when a friend told me about Chubby Chicks – fresh free range chickens which are delivered to your door.
Marcelle Curtis’ Dad has a farm in Stellenbosch and he raises free range chickens which his daughter will deliver.
They are free from hormones, stimulants, by products and are fed grains and allowed to roam freely.
They are never frozen or defrosted and are handled very minimally.
And they taste great, just like chicken should, and are much more flavoursome and juicy than ones you’d buy in a major retailer.
Try one and see, you’ll find it hard to go back to the “usual”.

I just got my first delivery of these chickens. Roasted one in the oven last night. Very tasty!!!!
What butcher do you use in Cape Town for your other meat?
Bought this month for the first time. They are divine, so soft and yummy.
Supermeats in Kenilworth.
Yes they do.
