Kate Schrire is the kind of local producer that we admire.
She’s feisty, passionate, dedicated and a major addition to the artisanal producer scene in Cape Town.
She makes great tasting ice cream, chock full of the best ingredients to be found in the Western Cape.
She gets her cream and eggs from local producers. Her strawberries come from Nowo Organics in Somerset West, and if she thought there was a berry on the top of Table Mountain that would be a great ingredient she’d hike up there for a sample.
Kate is a foot soldier for the sustainable food philosophy. She’s into slow food, reducing footprints, waste and general inefficiency that cost the environment dearly.
So you can eat her ice cream with a sparkling clean conscience, and a smile.
Gogo’s in Newlands, Clarke’s on Bree Street, The Neighbourgoods Market and the Earthfair Market in George’s Mall are some of the places you’ll find her products.

I am looking forward to a Shakespearian special next week when I attend “A Comedy of Errors” in Maynardville Park. She’s bringing out a once off fresh ginger and roasted plum variety just for that event.
Kate has a nice webshop and ice cream club (details on the website) where she offers ginger, lemon, strawberry, chocolate, peanut butter and vanilla by the pint. But her range of flavours is much broader than this, so you are going to have to track her down at a market sample the other delights.
Try The Creamery Ice Cream now, and see if you’ve ever tasted better ice cream.
