Wildwoods Bistro and Bar is only open a few weeks. It’s perched in a great location with fab views overlooking The Sentinel.
The owner/chef Pete Goff-Wood is a well known chef, judge and giver of Cowboy Kitchen courses.
The interior is simple; wooden chairs and tables with a lovely deck area. Wooden light fittings complete the minimalist look.
The manager is a charming and helpful fellow. The wine list is small and very well chosen.
The menu for Sunday lunch starts with a carafe of Bloody Mary,it looked excellent.
Starters included the usual salads and mussel dishes. The marrow bones and toast were an unusual item and they looked good.
My salad of chicory gorgonzola and was nice and tasty, but could have been presented better.
I asked for the roast beef to be done rare but the waitress said it all came the one way.It arrived overdone. Tragic.
It was tasty though, with a delicious gravy and roasted potatoes. The fish and chips was one of the best I’ve seen in Cape Town, with a perfectly done batter and firm moist flesh inside.
Other choices included crisp belly of pork, red wine braised veal and roasted wild sea bream for two.
The desserts included the usual selection of ice creams and cheesecake.
Delicious glasses of Badenhorst Secateurs Chenin Blanc (R24) and Newton Johnson Pinot Noir (R27) accompanied the food. A special effort has been made, according to the manager, to assemble a winelist which will match food items.
I can’t put my finger on it, but I feel Wildwoods is not yet in its stride.. Although the manager did his best to keep things flowing smoothly there was something odd about the service.
It wasn’t 100% but I’ll be back.
