Tal Smith opened Sababa in Sea Point a little over a year ago and it has been a great success. The formula of clean bright interior design and freshly prepared Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisine has proven a hit with locals.

sababa5 Sababa Kitchen and Deli, Bree Street. You can go along and have a snack there, or take away a lunchbox of goodies.

If you live in the southern burbs (as I do), Sea Point is not a location you find yourself in often, so I was delighted when Tal’s sister, Nirit Saban, opened a branch of Sababa on Bree Street.

The formula is the same – a large centre island of freshly prepared salads, dips and meze style food, including meat dishes. Your choices are plated or boxed and you pay by weight. There’s also a very tempting “sweet things” counter.
