This renovated old mill is home to a collection of knick knack shops, cafes and boutiques. It comes alive on a Saturday morning with the Neighbourgoods Market. Starting at 8am and running until 2pm this is one of the best food and drink markets in South Africa.
In Hall One there are a whole cornucopia of local producers, offfering everything from regional specialities, organic food, sweet treats, fresh meats and poultry, hand made cheeses, wood fired breads. Get the idea?
You can buy there and consume later or push through the crowds to Hall Two where a bunch of people cook on the spot for you. You can eat brunch and breakfast from the 4 corners of the globe. I have had Thai stir fry breakfast, seared beef sandwiches, flamkuchen from Germany, filled flat breads from Italy, currys etc.
One tip though, get there early. It might get crowded, but it’s always good natured. The shiny happy Capetonians mingle with the odd tourist and all in all you couldn’t start the weekend a better way.
