This market has recommenced for summer 2010/2011. I visited it last night again, on it’s first one this season, and it’s better than ever.
So I am reproducing the article I wrote on it in February.
This is a great new addition to the growing Cape Town market scene. The setting is beautiful, particularly at dusk on a summer’s evening. Burning braziers lend a magical air, as do stall holders lanterns and fairy lights.
The atmosphere is very chilled and laid back – family groups set up at tables (one reason to get there early) or on the ground on rugs. Teenagers and kids head off to the basket ball court to zip around on mini scooters and live music fills the air.
You can choose anything to eat from the stalls – pasta dishes, spit braii lamb, lamb pitta breads, Thai food, pastries and cakes, samosas, organic juices, hot dogs, popcorn, curries, lamb stews and so on. You can also browse craft and clothing stands inside the hall.
The only thing is that you must bring your own alcohol, and plenty did. School constitution rules account for this.
I loved the atmosphere and the laid back vibe ——kids running everywhere, dogs playing, everyone having a lekker time on a Friday evening, in a beautiful setting, as the sun goes down. What more could you ask for?
It’s a great way to end the week.
