I am a big fan of Southern Cross in Tokai.
I think it’s the best fish shop in Cape Town.
It’s a bit of a schlep for me to get out there and buy fish, but well worth it. So imagine my joy at hearing that Southern Cross opened in Palmyra Junction in Claremont.
And it’s an improved Southern Cross, because not only can you buy fish so fresh it’s still flapping, you can also sit and enjoy a choice of food from the sushi counter, the cold platter counter, or order a hot dish from Cliff Greyvenstein, who manages the shop.
The Palmyra shopping centre is a very pleasant place to go and shop. It just has the right mix of shops, supermarkets and places to dawdle and have a snack. Southern Cross is one of those places.
I’ve enjoyed great fish and chips there, and their soups (like classic Provancal boullibaisse) are
already legendary.

Fabulous! I am so chuffed they have moved closer.
I bought a fishermans chowder for dinner yesterday. Sublime! It’s supposed to feed 4, and I polished off half of it on my own, it’s that good! Thrilled they are in the ‘hood!
Hi Fiona, I’ve never tried that……..but I will next time I am in.
yay! I’m SO excited, I live around the corner, so love to pop in there, I would now be able to stop the and pick up some fish for Dear Me too!
Whe I saw the sign that they were opening at Palmyra I was distraught as I thought they were closing the store in Westlake.I was relieved to learn that they were just expanding
Great news that we now have our own fish shop nearby. Best of luck.
Bought and made some tuna steaks. Gordon Ramsay would’ve enjoyed it! Thanks for a constantly Fresh product.
Bought some vongole (clams). One of my favourite meals in the whole world (literally!) is linguine vongole!!!! Yummy and such a treat to find real clams in the shell in Cape Town!
Ate mine with my home-made mayo….next visit is to find something to go with my home-made tartar!
Well done Southern Cross!
