The Cookme range of pasta mixes and risottos are all in one meals made from dehydrated vegetables and herbs.
You add water, olive oil, mix it with pasta and that’s it.
The products are dehydrated slowly, retaining 98% of their nutrients and are 100% natural. No artificial flavourings, colourants or flavour enhancers are used.
So I decided to try one out.
I picked the Pasta Number 4, containing mostly melanzane, tomatoes, mushrooms and herbs.
I followed the instructions, putting the contents in a bowl of water with hot water for 5 minutes. Then I was to heat oil and add the mix to the oil in a pan.
I felt the rehydration process was a bit slow, so I left the mix for 20 minutes, drained the liquid (it wasn’t doing anything for me), and added some gorgonzola cheese to the mix. I then added the lot to bowtie pasta, cooked al dente.
Washed down with a glass of Shiraz blend from Allesverloren. It was a nice quick, convenient meal. No chopping or serious preparation involved.
Cookme make 4 pasta souces, and two risottos. You can buy them at any of the good weekend markets in Cape Town. They will also be available soon in Engen, on Orange. Over the next few months Cookme products will pop up in other outlets across the Cape.
Price; between R30 and R60.
