Ice cream and wine as a food pairing?
I thought I was losing it, having read too many press releases in too short a period of time, but there it was; Ice Cream and Wine Tasting – in black and white.
After a while I reminded myself that recently I had paired brandies with charcuterie, dessert wines with an entire meal and a few pints of Guinness with nothing at all.
So I gave it a bit of thought and, you know what? for R45, you can’t go wrong.
Clos Malverne are offering four different wines with ice cream combinations. Located in the Devon Valley, near Stellenbosch, their winemaker Suzanne Coetzee worked with Chef Nadia Louw Smith’s home made ice-cream creations.
Clos Malverne Sauvignon Blanc is paired with Lychee & Lime ice cream. Hmmm, I can see that one working well. A tropical fruit
fight to the finish. A sweet and sour combo to beat the band.
Next up is Le Cafe – Clos Malverne’s new coffee-style pinotage matched with Mandarin and Pistachio Praline ice cream. No explanations needed here of the nuts, coffee bean and mocha flavours working in harmony. Girls, when are we off to Stellenbosch?
If that wasn’t enough, they’ve matched Strawberry and White Chocolate ice cream with their Cape Blend, Auret, which they describe as a “Wimbledon Centre Court Ace Match”. That would be the strawberries I suppose.
The final pairing is the Clos Malverne Pinotage Reserve matched with Dark Chocolate Chip ice cream. Hold me back!
You need to pre book these tastings, so that there’s enough ice cream made up. And they are available from 10am to 4pm each day, Tuesday until Saturday, from now until next February.
What’s not to like?
