Wild chicken from Frankie Fenner’s.

huge 530x529 Wild chicken from Frankie Fenners.

Andy takes his chicken for a walk.

A while ago I wrote about the pork you can get from Frankie Fenner Meat Merchants;

“Our pigs have become pretty fussy eaters; acorns and shrubs are what they’re after ….. are always foraging….. Always moving rocks…. Always digging….. Always burrowing…their neck muscles have developed. Seriously developed. Like if-Arnie-was-a-pig-he’d-want-this-neck-developed.”

Some flippin’ meat that……

Now it’s the turn of the chickens to rule the roost in the Frankie Fenner weekly bulletin.

And what chickens!

Wild chickens….and as Andy Fenner writes;

”I’m not calling it that because it likes to get hammered and drive home at high speeds smoking a joint. It’s a different kind of wild…..they’re massive, and often tip the scales at 2kgs….they spend their days in the (and here’s the kicker)……wild. Picking off the land and ranging about.”

Andy writes that they have a gamier taste than one of your regular birds, and recommends that they be roasted with a little chorizo and butter under the skin.

I want me one of these birds.

But I want it alive.

I’ll feed it stray cats and I’ll just tether it in my front garden to scare away undesirables and unwanted callers.

They cost R58 per kilogram, that’s R116 for a big one, and the chorizo is extra.
