Wine Concepts, with branches in Newlands and on Kloof Street, will host their 8th annual Seductive Sauvignon festival this Friday, August 27th, from 5 to 9pm.
It will be held in the salubrious surroundings of one of my favourite hotels, The Vineyard Hotel and Spa, in Newlands. If you get a chance, check out the pool there, it’s a knockout. As if that wasn’t enough, the oldest tortoise in Cape Town roams the grounds, munching grass and occasionally laying eggs in front of surprised guests.
Tickets cost R100, and it will be an opportunity for you to sip, slurp and spit your way through over 60 different bottles of Sauvignon Blancs and Cabernet Sauvignon.
If you like what you’re drinking you’ll be able to buy at special rates from Wine Concepts.
As Mike Bampfield Duggan will have had a large hand in selecting the range on offer I imagine there’ll be some delicious wines at fantastic prices.
I’ve got my ticket already, I can’t wait, see you there!!
And, before you go, we have a half case of 6 mixed Sauvignon Blancs to give away to one lucky person.
To win, you have to be the first person back with the answer to the following question.
What percentage of grapes planted in South Africa are Sauvignon Blanc? (Hint, 2009 are the last figures available)

Approximately 9.3%
Hi Clare! Was I correct?
It’s about 12%
8% of land under vines are Sauvignon Blanc.
It is 7%
10% ?
Linda, No, you are not right……..yet!!!! But hurry on. The information is easy to find……..
Hi Clare,
According to the following article (published on Wines of SA at the beginning of this month), the answer is 9.3%?
http://blog.warwickwine.com/2010/07/south-african-sauvignon-blanc-is-full.html
Ok, given what that article says and the total hectares under vineyards in SA, perhaps this is more accurate!
Total vineyard hectares: 103,000
Sauv blanc hectares: 9443
Therefore 9.17%? But I still think the 9.3 that I mentioned previously is more accurate!
If neither of these are right, then I give up!!
The suspense!!!
Winner is Linda, as she is the closest. Well done! The real answer, according to Wines of South Africa Stats, is 9% exactly. But you are the closest and the most dogged about winning this fantastic mixed half case of Sauvignon Blanc from Wine Concepts.
Please e.mail me directly on Monday on clare@spill.co.za and I’ll fill you in on how to pick up the prize.
Well done again!!
