Fran's Smoked Salt Caramels.
Four years ago, while out on the campaign trail, a Seattle based staff member of Obama’s team presented him with a box of Smoked Salt Caramels made by Fran’s Chocolates of Seattle.
Now they are the chocolate of choice in the White House, and will be the treat you will be handed when visiting Barack, as they are the favourite chocolate of the most powerful man on Earth.
The salt is supplied by a small company from the Isle of Anglesey, off the coast of Wales.
The oak smoked salt now accounts for 45% of all the salt exported from the UK, as sales have shot up in line with the popularity of the caramels that Barack favours.
Andrina Bigelow, daughter of chocolate maker, Fran, says that the lightly oak smoked salt “just gives a hint of smokiness and so compliments the other flavours in the chocolate”.
