Where were you born?
Naarden, in The Netherlands.
How long have you been in your present job?
In September this year I will be at Le Quartier Francais for 15 years
What is your favourite dish to eat?
I love a lot of things, and it really depends on my mood, the time of year and where I am.I think South African produce is very exciting. Karoo lamb is one of my favourite meats to eat. But a lovely piece of butterfish, some artichokes and a squeeze of lime makes me very happy. When I eat out I like lots of small courses and then preferably no meat.
What’s the best thing about your job?
The creativity-we play every day. And the fantastic people I am surrounded by.
What’s the worst thing about your job?
It never stops.
Can you name a restaurant in Cape Town you like?
I recently celebrated my husband’s birthday at the Grand Beach – fantastic atmosphere!
If you were not a chef what would you be doing?
Playing my saxophone.
What’s your favourite food memory?
Going to the bakery early on Sunday mornings with my father. I was allowed to nibble on the crispy end of the warm baguette on the way home.
