STEENBERG HOTEL AND THE ASSET FORFEITURE UNIT.
Just my luck. One day I blog about Garth and the very next day at 6am all hell breaks loose at Steenberg Hotel. Erronious reports start seeping through the tweets and media of Cape Town and South Africa about the alleged seizure of the Steenberg Hotel by the Assets Forfeiture Unit.
So, as the blog with the reputation of having it’s finger on the pulse of comings and goings in the Horeca industry in the Western Cape, my phone and e.mails started to glow red.
What was happening? Why were all the police cars down in Steenberg? Have the Old Bill padlocked the doors of Steenberg? Will we still be able to eat Garth’s offal?
The great and the good demanded to know; So Clare, how did you know? What is this uncanny weather eye you have??
Look folks, not being one to preen, I seriously hadn’t a clue that this kind of drama was about to unfold, but the timing was a bit weird.
But let us now set the record straight.
1. Gaston Savoi used to part own Steenberg.
2. In 2005, Graham Beck’s Kangra Group bought the hotel from Mr. Savoi and his partner, Adrian Gardiner.
3. Mr.Savoi lives in a house on the estate.
4. He was arrested in this house.
5. There is no connection between the Steenberg Hotel and the events that transpired yesterday.
Is that clear?
Good, thanks. Business as usual at Steenberg. I have booked my table for next week. See you there!

Clare,
I thought you worked in the One and Only? How the hell else would you get the Maze exclusive? And the Reuben Riffel exclusive? And the Richard Carstens exclusive?.
Jeez, I figured you wrong, now you get the Steenberg exclusive, now I am worried you work in the Chief State Prosecutors office…….
Dirk, you have an overactive imagination. Calm down and have a hot chocolate before you go to bed tonight.
